Robert E. Ellis, D.D.S.

Oral surgeon Dr. Robert E. Ellis was born and raised in North Canton, Ohio. He completed his undergraduate training at The Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, graduating Cum Laude in Biology/Biochemistry. Following graduation he went to Dental School at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and graduated Cum Laude. While in Dental School he married, and joined the U.S. Navy. He served as a general dental officer in San Diego, California in a rotating internship. Always interested in the surgical aspect of the dental profession, he decided to pursue the specialty of Oral Surgery. At the time his rotating internship was complete in the Navy, a position for a fellowship in Anesthesiology was available at the Ohio State University and Dr. Ellis was accepted for this position. He completed this fellowship and went on to be accepted into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the Ohio State University.

Following completion of his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at Ohio State University, Dr. Ellis came to Georgia in 1980 with his wife and two children to settle in Gwinnett County. He first practiced as an associate, then partner of Dr. James Sparks, one of first Oral Surgeons in Gwinnett County. After six years with Dr. Sparks, Dr. Ellis opened his own practice in Lawrenceville. In July of 1999 Dr. Jess Gardner joined Dr. Ellis as an associate and is now a partner in the practice.

It is the doctor’s goal to provide excellent care in a state of the art facility with total capability for all types of outpatient surgery and anesthesia. Both doctors stay current with the latest advances in the specialty attending continuing education courses during the year. Dr. Ellis’s interests include the usual day-to-day Oral Surgery procedures such as Extractions, the removal of Wisdom Teeth and Oral Pathology along with Bone Grafting, Oral Soft Tissue procedures, Dental Implants and Facial Reconstructive Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery).

Dr. Ellis is board certified (A Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons), a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a member of the Georgia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiologists, a member of the Northern District Dental Society, a member of the Hinman Dental Society and the Morgan L. Allison Society of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons at the Ohio State University. He is one of the founders of and a current member of the Gwinnett Dental Society, a Dental Study Club in Gwinnett County.

Dr. Ellis is licensed in Georgia and several Midwestern and North Eastern states governed by the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners. He has privileges at Gwinnett Hospital Systems in Lawrenceville and Duluth, GA.
