Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery
Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery includes Crown lengthening and Root Coverage. Crown Lengthening is a procedure to remove the excess gum tissue, exposing more of the crown of the tooth. Root Coverage is a procedure that takes gum tissue from the palate to facilitate coverage of the exposed root.
Who Needs Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery
Oral and Facial Surgery Associates perform Crown Lengthening Surgery to sculpt the gum line to create the right proportion between gum tissue and the tooth surface. This procedure is for patients who feel their teeth are too short or their gum line is uneven. Occasionally this procedure is done during Orthodontics or after an Implant is placed to have the gum tissue length appear symmetrical.
Patients that have excessive gingival recession or have had a Dental Implant placed are wonderful candidates for Root Coverage Surgery. Or providers use soft tissue grafts to cover roots, and develop the absent gum tissue due to excessive gingival recession and to create a natural look after Dental Implants are placed. In some cases, they can cover exposed roots to protect them from decay and prepare teeth for Orthodontic treatment. This may also reduce tooth sensitivity and improve the esthetics of your smile as well.
Both Crown Lengthening and Root Coverage Surgery can be done in our State of the Art facility with either local or IV sedation. If you are a candidate for either surgery our surgeons will work closely with your Dentist and Orthodontist during your treatment. To help you understand the surgical process and the extent of treatment prescribed, please contact our office for a consultation appointment.
